Common Ties REALLY needs Stories
Everywhere I look, on every job board, I see a call for submissions for Common Ties. Common Ties is a story blog and they pay, upon acceptance, from $100 to $200 for a 750-3000 word essay, and sometimes up to $1000 if the story is compelling enough, on the following upcoming subjects.:
Common Ties now runs themes most Mondays. Future themes (and due dates) include:
marriage (April 17)
mental disorders* (April 24)
under the influence (May 1)
mothers and motherhood (May 8 )
open themes (May 15)
confessions (May 22)
turning points (May 29)
fathers and fatherhood (June 12)
* With particular interest in: autism, Alzheimer’s/dementia, bipolar, and schizophrenia.
Here are their writer’s guidelines.

Good morning, Deb. I have heard the same thing from writers, that they were rejected. I sent a story in when Common Ties first came out and it was rejected, but I have seen them advertising so much lately that I think I’m going to give it another shot.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope the weather in the North has calmed down!
I’ll have to check with them more often. It’s a shame the Alzheimer’s/Dementia deadline is so soon. I possibly could write something about my father, but I’m on a project this week.
I sent them something, but after I did I read on their site that one common reason people are rejected is that they send in essays rather than stories, and my entry was definitely an essay. ![]()

They DO advertise a lot, don’t they? I know a few people whose submissions were accepted and more whose weren’t. They must be really strict.
