Fair and Balanced Reporting
When there is a controversy I always want to make sure I hear both sides of a story. Recently BP Whiting Refinery came under attack from an article in the Chicago Tribune. The Tribune ran an article about a BP Factory in Whiting, Indiana and misrepresented some important facts about their environmental practices. But, from BP’s Whiting Refinery Fact Sheet, I see that BP is committed to minimizing the environmental impact of their actions. These are some highlights from BP’s Fact Sheet.
-They only place treated water into Lake Michigan
-BP is well within their legal limits
-They are causing no harm to people or the environment
-They are continuously striving for improvement
-BP uses the most modern technology
-They are careful to use a collaborative, transparent approach
-They are intent on providing fuel for the Midwest
-BP is providing jobs now and in the future
To offer another fair and balanced view, here is an article about BP from the Sentinel. We must always make sure we get both sides of any story, and I believe that if you will read all of the information I have included in this article you will do exactly that. BP Whiting Refinery, in my opinion, is doing everything they can and more to help preserve the environment.
