I caught some flak about my post and the picture of the used car salesman. I was referring to affiliate marketers. One person said that it was unfair to group affiliate marketers in with MLMs.
Here is an email I just got. Which one is he, affiliate marketer or MLM. To me he is selling pies in the sky, much like the old timey snake oil saleman.

Affiliate Marketers and Snake-Oil Salesmen
I am so excited about this blog!You see, I have come full circle. If you have noticed, all of my blogs are on the same domain, I’m cheap like that, and not all of them have to do with internet marketing.
There’s a reason for this, sort of. When I first bought the domain, internetmarketingreview.org, I had big dreams of taking the internet by storm with affiliate marketing and all that good stuff. But I realized quickly that most affiliate marketing programs were just trying to take my money.
Kind of like this guy. We all know this guy. He tells you what you want to hear, he’s slick, smooth talking, and he smells like Aqua Velva.
That is the impression I get about many internet marketers. (Looks like Mark Hopkins at Mashable feels the same way.) But I also realized that I needed to learn and gather facts before I dove into affiliate marketing. I have been doing that for about a year, thus all the free stuff you find here.
All of this helps explain, besides the fact that I am a tightwad, why my blogs are on a domain with a name like that. I figured why not? I pay for the damn domain, I might as well take full advantage of it.
And before I was stupid enough to use all of my blogs to do paid posting I had PR3 and PR4 on them. (A story for another time.)
Now let me tell you about a lot of that free stuff. It came from affiliate marketers using the free stuff–which I am not bitching about, I love free stuff and the articles and downloads are great, but still–to bait you into buying their product or service. I didn’t fall for any of that, and let me say, in defense of the honest marketer who really believes in his/her product and wants to help others have the same success they are, please don’t take offense, but you are definitely the exception.
Anyway, back to the point. I have been collecting and buying stuff for a long time. I decided I was ready to blog about internet marketing, the thing that gets me the most excited online, and felt it was a shame to keep all this free stuff to myself.
(One more word about the internet marketers.) What I don’t think many of the slick, snake oil salespeople realize is that their tactics are quickly becoming cliche, worn out, and transparent. The internet is changing into a different kind of place. It’s not the wild, wild west anymore, where you rascals can prey on innocent people with impunity. Internet surfers and potential business folks are wising up.
In that spirit, everything on this blog is free and always will be. I will be reporting on marketing news and products and continuously adding more free stuff.
